AMERICAN DREAM – RED, WHITE and BLUE

Today, I celebrate my American Citizenship. I could have been already a citizen five years ago but circumstances happened. I felt defeated, hurt and unable to defend myself from all the issues I went through. I had to do what I had to do to keep myself living in the land of opportunity. Being in America for 9 years has been very challenging. From being a single Mom, divorced, and has plenty of immigration issues. This young woman from halfway around the world had never gave up. She has been brave, hard working, smart and independent.

I feel like I won the world lotto — Citizenship in America is an unimaginable feeling! My journey to this day was at times so challenging as to be frightening. I once took a Greyhound bus ride many states away to find employment with only $100 total for my multi day trip. She had gone flat broke, helpless, desperate and homeless.

I was brought to America based on a dream. The man I came with changed “our” dream and I was abandoned.. and broke.
Americans of all sorts intersected with my life. At all times I relied on my Philippine values of hard work, resolve and faith to get me through the hard days and the chance to have my precious little man with me. It was tedious road to get here!

In the end, my husband, Rob, and I met and together we built the foundation of my American life, including adopting his son, having a son together, and having my lovable son on the Philippines move with me here, forever.

My time in the USA involved the worst of worries and the happiest of hopes.
Today, my family and my new found fabulous country inspire me to experience the greatest of experiences. Thank you to my Philippine and American family members. Thank you to my benevolent friend (GPJ) who extend his unending love and support to get through all this and above all thank you God.
